Stand Up, Turn Around, and Sit Down

In life, we face a lot of challenges. It’s inevitable. As Christians, we aren’t exempt from going through hard times. In fact, we probably will face more difficult situations as Christians. People will always try to tell you that if you need “religion” you’re weak or that following what the Bible says keeps you in a box of rules. While I have my reservations about these statements, we’ll discuss why another time.

As Christians, we are called to be in the world and not of it. We are supposed to live in the world, but not do the things that the world tells us is acceptable.

Sometimes facing the world means turning your back on it.

What does this mean? It’s kinda simple. While we want to face the world and stand up to its ideals, we shouldn’t let ourselves get so obsessed with it that we neglect our relationship with God and neglect our call to serve others. While I think that it’s good that we stand up for what we believe is right, I also think that we need to sit down and spend some time with God. It’s important to know what we believe in, but it’s also extremely important to know Who created and gave us those beliefs and convictions.

God doesn’t want you to be the biggest or the loudest at defending what you believe. He wants you to be the most loving and understanding person you can be. By doing this, people will see Him through you. He also doesn’t want you to let your charity work for others get in the way of your relationship with Him. It’s so great to love others and spend time helping others, but if you let that become your image and let it take precedence over your relationship with God, you’re missing the point. I think it’s great that people spend a lot of their time helping others, but it’s also vital that you take time every single day to sit and spend time with God.

So, stand up to the world and don’t let them sway you in what you believe. God gave you people around you and His word to hold you up. Don’t be shaken. Turn around and sit down and spend time with God. The whole point of being here on earth is to get to know and appreciate God and all that he is capable of. He wants a personal relationship with YOU. He wants you to get to know Him and reap the benefits of knowing Him. Don’t become complacent in your relationship with Him. When we become complacent, serving others and doing the right things are just things we do when we go through the motions. Don’t become complacent; spend time with the Creator so you can do what he created you to do; love God and love people.

So, to face the world and all of the craziness that comes with it, we need to turn our back on it and face the One who made it. We need to dig deep into the Word and grow deeper in our relationship with God so that we can face the world and not be shaken. When we do this, we will without a doubt face hard times, but what makes us different is that we have a God who can change our circumstances in an instant. He created us to know Him. When we get to know Him, we get to understand our calling and what it means to live a truly successful life.
